Under 9s Report

This was certainly new territory for me in my coaching career, teaching cricket to the U 9’s age group. Some of the children had experience of the game, but in the main they were beginners. I must say that I enjoyed every minute as did my co-coach’s Sam Wood. My thanks go to him for his effort time and dedication.

The only active sport I play these days is golf and unfortunately all the men’s’ competition fall on a Sundays at St Athan Club. This clashed with the many of the U 9’s festivals that are organised for Sunday mornings. Could I thank Sara Russell for co-ordinating these events and the parents who helped to run them in my absence.

When the teams represented the club they fared quite well winning some of their matches.  James Collingridge and Harry Jones stood out as the better players, but improvement was seen by all by the end of the season. When the weather was inclement we used the indoor facilities of the scout club. We were grateful to the Moir-Sims family for that opportunity.

I congratulate all the children for their hard work, dedication and improvement. It is a difficult game to understand and a high degree of skill is needed to allow batting, bowling and fielding.

The squad consisted of the following:

James Collingridge, Harry Jones, Ben Davies, Daniel Evans, Will Fishlock, Tom Hamlett, Finlay Hart, Stanley Isles, Elliott Jones, Riley Moir-Sims, Lloyd Murphy, Finnian Orders, Rhodri Phillips, and Ottilie Rogers.
