Under 11s XI Bears Report

Liam Sullivan

Cowbridge Under 11 Bears

Team Manager

This was the Bears first season playing with all the pads and the hard ball. As the squad was still a year young in the U11 age group, they were entered in the B division. After 10 indoor net sessions in February/March/April where a lot of technical skills were coached by Liam, Garran and Max, the season started with a friendly against the Vale CC and a comfortable win was recorded, played in light drizzle throughout the game.

The team played eight league matches in the season, consisting of 20 overs per innings. Everyone bowled at least 2 overs except for the wicket keeper, and pairs battled 4 overs each.

16 players were used in the league matches played with eight victories and no defeats. Highest individual inning of the season was Rob Brown’s 21 v Barry Wanderers and best bowling recorded was Lewis Sevenoaks fantastic spell of in-swing bowling at Miskin, where he took 4 wickets for 6 runs.

The team won the West B division easily and so met Radyr CC winners of the East B division with the final played at Radyr on the 31st August.

Radyr batted first and reached a total of 229-8, pick of the Cowbridge bowlers were Tom Collingridge, Alys Phillips and Ellis Murphy all taking 2 wickets for not many runs. Cowbridge never quite got on top in the run chase but were still in it at the death with Finlay Sullivan and Harry Treharne just failing to get the team to victory, Cowbridge finishing on 215-8.

The match was a great credit to both sides with some proper cricket played in the late summer sun, enjoyed by a good crowd of supporting parents.

Three of the squad gained representative honours by the end of the season. Alys Phillips, Rob Brown and Harry Treharne had all made the County Squad. Player of the Season for his all round performance was Dexter Hart, the “go to” bowler on most occasions.

The rest of the squad have shown huge improvement over the season and have all performed to a level that will have them playing senior club cricket by their mid teens, if they continue improving the way they have.

Well done to all the U11 Squad for the Season:

Finlay Ball, Ed Bosworth, Rob Brown, Tom Collingridge, Will Hamlett, Will Harris, Dexter Hart, Archie Lloyd, Ellis Murphy, Isaac Owen, Guru Pandya, Alys Phillips, Rhys Prithard, Lewis Sevenoaks, Finlay Sullivan, Harry Treharne
