Junior Presentation Night
On Friday July 11th 2014, the club held its second Junior Presentation Evening. For the second year running we were also blessed with wonderful weather as our junior cricketers and their families gathered to celebrate the season’s ‘highs and lows’.
The club’s junior section is thriving. Last year the club had five junior teams playing in the Cardiff and Vale Junior Cricket League -
The evening began with a match played between a combined U13/U15 team versus a combined 1st XI/Coaches team. Now that may seem a little imbalanced a contest, but the 1st XI/Coaches team had to bat and bowl with the opposite hand to normal! Needless to say a lot of fun was had by all.
Following this, cricketers and families tucked into a barbeque. We would like to thank Jonathan Tudor and his band of helpers for organising the barbeque.
Once everyone was fed and watered, the business side of the evening got underway. The awards for ‘Player of the Year’ and ‘Most Improved Player’ for each of the teams were presented this year by Glamorgan Cricket Club’s Graham Wagg, who very kindly gave up his Friday evening to attend.
Awards were as follows:
Under 9 Player of the Year -
Under 9 most Improved Player -
Under 11 Bears Player of the Year -
Under 11 Bears Most Improved Player -
Under 11 Bulls Player of the Year -
Under 11 Bulls Most Improved Player -
Under 13 Player of the Year -
Under 13 Most Improved Player -
Under 15 Player of the Year -
Under 15 Most Improved Player -
The junior section also celebrated its cricketers who achieved representational honours during the 2014 season.
Wales Girls U15 -
National Development Centre U13s -
Cardiff and Vale U15 Boys -
Cardiff and Vale U10 Boys -
The evening concluded with a raffle and we would like to thank Glamorgan Cricket Club, local businesses and parents for donating some fantastic prizes.
Our Junior Section is flourishing, though we do see a tail off of cricketers at Under 15 level. We hope that we can stop this trend as our younger cricketers progress through the age groups. Of course the strength of this section is also due to our coaches who take on these roles voluntarily. Huge thanks to all of them. Jonty Webb, our U13 coach decided at the end of last season that he was unable to carry on in this role owing to work commitments and so we would like to pay special thanks to him for many years of service.
Our final vote of thanks, of course, goes to the junior cricketers and their families who make this section the success it is.
