When winter training commenced in January 2016, the U11s were just half a team of players so the stronger U9 players of 2016 were quickly fast-tracked up an age group. This meant that many had to adjust, in just a couple of months, to hardball cricket and then compete against teams with much more experience of the game.
At the start of the summer, we welcomed additional new players to the team, but such a young and inexperienced side were always going to find the playing season tough. However, there was always a good team spirit and commitment. Of the eight games played, 7 were losses but three of those were agonisingly by three runs or less!
The ‘Player of the Year’ was Finlay Hart and the ‘Most Improved Player’ was Tristan MacIver.
Despite a difficult season, the squad showed continual improvement and clearly learnt from these tough experiences.
Thanks go to the squad for their commitment and energy! Thanks also to all the parents, in particular those who helped out at matches and training.
