2016 Golf Day Report

A beautiful summer's morning greeted 88 golfers as they gathered at The Vale Resort's superbly-presented Lakes Course on Thursday 2nd June 2016 for our annual Golf Day, held to raise funds for the Club.

Staged at The Vale Resort once again thanks to the generosity of the Leeke family, the day attracted 22 four-ball teams, five more than in 2015. In addition to the Leeke family, we are most grateful to Andrew Brace and his company Press Metal UK Ltd for their continued support of Cowbridge Cricket Club and its Golf Day.

As in previous years, the day saw keen competition as golfers competed for team awards and for individual prizes in close to ideal conditions. The individual and team winners were calculated using the Stableford scoring system which awards one point for a bogey, two for a par, three for a birdie, four for an eagle and five for an albatross.

Totalling the best Stableford score for the first six holes, the best two scores for the middle six holes and the best three scores for the final six holes, the top three individual winners were:

1st) John Pratt with 34 points off a handicap of 15

2nd) Craig Sherman with 32 points off a handicap of three

3rd) Jeff Davies with 32 points (on count back) off a handicap of 11

The "nearest the pin" prize went to Jake White with Phil England recording the day's longest drive.

In the team competition, the results were:

1st) Chairman’s Team with 79 points - Hugh Williams, Craig Sherman, Jeff Davies

and Rhys Griffiths.

2nd) Brewin Dolphin with 77 points - Aaron, Eddie, Gareth and Howard

(apologies, no surnames recorded).

3rd) Mulberry with 76 points - Phil Payne, Gareth Cozens, Richard Bevington

and Ian Walsh.
