President’s Lunch

The Chairman’s Table

The scene was well set for an outstanding occasion on Sunday 30th July, as we had retained as a lunch venue a marquee that had been used for a party the previous evening.

Both Cowbridge and Bridgend produced strong teams to compete for the 1840 Cup as the planned after-lunch "entertainment". Our loyal committee, members and friends also turned out in force to enjoy an excellent four-course meal laid on by caterer, Andrew Tucker.

Unfortunately there was one important element missing – the sun. Heavy overnight rain had saturated the ground and, although the pitch was covered, the water table had risen to the surface, making play impossible. Both captains were in agreement that the game should be called off.

As a result, lunch was enjoyed even more than usual, with copious amounts of wine being consumed. Jon Brazier organised an excellent after-lunch quiz while Harriett Davies cajoled all present to purchase raffle tickets in support of the club.

Cowbridge Cricket Club Players

Even though there was no cricket, the afternoon's social occasion was enjoyed by all.

Grateful thanks are extended to our President Jeff Bird and his wife, Andrea, for their invaluable contribution towards the success of the day. To everyone who was present goes a big thank you in helping produce a healthy profit that went towards club funds.
